WHERE SUN MEETS THE SNOW

Young was the night
And the lights shimmer;
Everyone's such a sight
Brown, yellow, and white glimmer.

"Ninong! Ninang!"
The children called;
Songs they sang
Even when cold.

From house to house they go
With bottle crowns and empty cans;
Hoping to get several peso
They would even sing and dance.

Christmas will be soon
And countdown has started;
Everyone's ready with their spoon
For noche buena to be parted.

Alas!  It is 12 o'clock!
"Merry Christmas!" they all say
As gifts were opened with shock;
And all are happy and gay.

Yet we are not sure
That it's always like this;
For there are the poor
Who can't have such bliss.

Dried fish for all to share
To the extent of having none;
To sleep, they can only dare
Until the day is done.

Nevertheless, we Filipinos are cheerful
'Though we lack gifts or food;
By making things meaningful,
Through faith in Jesus, who is good.

We may not have iced lakes
Where we can skate
Nor we have snowflakes
Where snowmen we can create.

But we can swim, at least
In our hot springs and rivers;
We can have an outdoor feast
Without getting any shivers.

Besides, trees are green as always
And the waters still flow
Even in Christmas days
Where sun meets the snow.

Some Filipino words which I thought should be defined:
1. Ninong - godfather
2. Ninang - godmother
3. noche buena - meal before Christmas (actually, it's of Spanish origin)

i've searched about the different types of poetry and i believe this one belongs to the "free verse" category. (definition from [link])
